18th May 2010 - Finally we got good weather for our league night, that sun dance must have worked :-) What a difference in the weather in just 1 week! The jumping was very enjoyable and everyone did very very well, depsite Clare putting a very scary fence at number 8. I unfortunately lowered the tone of the evening when my jods quite literally fell apart and i exposed my bottom!!! Erol managed to get a photo of this unpleasant sight! However rest assured i will not subject any of you to this sight by putting the picture on the website...
11th May 2010 - We seem to be somewhat doomed with the weather this year so far for the league nights and last night was no exception with first 2 classes being run in what can only be described as heavy snow! No-one can accuse Mo, Loretta or Anne of being fair weather riders! The judge was very impressed at their resilience! It was a quiet night however the Novice class produced some very nice tests with some high scores, i was particularly pleased with my boy. I want everyone to do a Sun Dance on the yard on Monday to pray for better weather for the Jumping on Tuesday 18th May!!!
20th April 2010 - Well our first showjumping of the year got off to a snowy start, however between blizzards we did manage to get out and jump. Well done to everyone who made the effort to come out depsite the weather and we look forward to seeing you all in 2 weeks. Remember Erol will be there again this year taking photo's, please see him direct to purchase any. And we have another celebratory on the yard, did anyone see Nicky and Moyo on the STV news?
13th April 2010 - Jennifer Spence took the descision to no longer manage the yard to pursue a new challenge. Most of you already know the new Manager Clare Stennett as she arrived recently with her horse Wogan as a livery. May we all give Clare as much support as possible while she settles into her new role.
2nd March 2010 - The Events Diary has been updated, dates and schedules have been uploaded. This year following a couple of requests we have added an Elementary class to 3 of dates, good luck to everyone for the year ahead.
7th February 2010 - Just when we thought we had got rid of the snow the darned stuff came back!! I have updated the Events diary for 2010, we are planning to host another British Dressage Competition Workshop this year in April if you are interested in attending please let me know ASAP.
17th January 2010 - It has been a while since the last update (my computer blew up!) but everyone had a great time at the Christmas Night with Jen, Myself and Elena proving that it is very difficult to get out of a car park late at night particularly when one of us was drunk! We have had the patter of tiny feet recently when Sara and Carrie both had beautiful babies, Cole and Tyler. Congratulations to them both. We must also welcome Anna, Gwen, Claire and Lauren to the yard and hope they have all settled in well. We will be updating the Events Diary very soon so if there is a particular event that you would like the yard to host please let Jen know asap.
26th September 2009 - Today was the final event of the year for the yard, i personally will enjoy the rest. It was a gloriously sunny day and everyone was very enthusiastic, the Horse & Hound provided the usual entertainment where the rule book appeared to have gotten lost! There was a heart stopping moment when Vic tripped on landing in the warm-up and both himself and Mo hit the the deck, thankfully both horse and rider were ok going on to claim 3rd and 4th in classes 1 & 3.
19th August 2009 - The final of the Showjumping League was last evening and despite the rain earlier in the day the weather was good. Emily Plant and Pebbles were the well deserved winners of the Mini Miniumus League with runner-up going to Stephanie Cockburn and Tex. It was a close run contest but the final winner of the Minimus League went to Julie Wattie and Jumbal Z and Sue collins with Mr Tom were the runners-up. It was another rosette for Stephanie Cockburn as she won the 75cm League on Rue and Rebbecca Porteous narrowly beat Kerri Crowe to take runner-up on Bugsy. We thank you all for your support for the leagues this summer and look forward to seeing you all again next year.
13th August 2009 - It was the Dressage League Final on Tuesday and it was a very busy night, many thanks to Hilary Purvis for judging until so late so that we did not have to ballot anyone out. The Intro League winner went to Lorraine Bell and Strachbell Zeger B and runner-up to Lesley Frewin and Abbey. Eilidh Herd and Nikita were the runaway victors of the Prelim League and runner-up went to Jenny Scott and Rosie. And finally with a massive score Moira Mann and Mr Tom won the Novice League and runner-up went to Eilidh Herd and Popeye. Congratulations to everyone and we look forward to seeing you all next year. I got a few photo's from the night and hope to get them uploaded to the gallery very soon.
8th August 2009 - This years Christmas party has been booked for Friday 4th December and we are going to the Masquerade Ball at Carmelite, if you want to go please let me (Anna) know ASAP and I need the desposit by 19th August at the VERY latest.
15th July 2009 - The Blue Man took some fantastic photo's from the Prelim League and Novice classes on the 30th June, please go to www.bluemanphotography.com to view the pictures.
29th June 2009 - Depsite a damp start yesterday the weather turned out very nice for the Trophy Showjumping yesterday. We do hope that Oscar the dog has recovered from going splat into the planks in the Horse and Hound and Dave has earned the new name "Commando Dave" after his enthusiastic exit from the ring once he realised he was still in the ring and the bell had gone. The Chase Me Charlie was exciting again this year and finally won by Karyn Heath and Suzy Q jumping 1m 20cm, all the competitors did very well and definitely braver than me. I took lots of photo's and uploaded some of them to the gallery, i appologise now for my lack of photography skill.
28th May 2009 - The dressage league events continue to be very well attended depsite some miserable weather. Karyn has to win the most stylish unscheduled dismount when Suzy took a sudden dislike to the planks at the Showjumping on Tuesday, Karyn very elegantly landed on her feet and promptly jumped straight back on! A new event has been added to the Events diary, a Trophy Fun Showjumping show is planned for Sunday 28th June and there will be a class to suit everyone. It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to Tracey and Erol and wish her the best with her new house, we also welcome Kate and Danni to the yard with their beautiful Spanish horses Quadi and Fin.
5th May 2009 - The second Dressage League competition was extremely well attended despite the rain, thank you all for making the effort on such a wet evening. Hopefully we will get better weather for next weeks jumping.
21st April 2009 - The Dressage League got off to a cracking start with the first Dressage event of the year being exceptionally well attended. Feedback from competitors was that they had an enjoyable evening and we look forward to seeing you all back over the summer. Many thanks to Wendy for her arithmatic skills and adding up most of the score sheets. Congratulations to Lorraine, Tracey and Lynn for winning their classes.
19th April 2009 - We had glorious weather for the Car Boot we even needed sun screen. Although i still resembled a tomato the following day! Dave and Jenny organised an impromtu BBQ afterwards which was very enjoyable, we keep telling Jenny she could make a fortune hiring him out!
25th February 2009 - Well it's been a cold winter and a bit too much snow for my liking, hopefully the worst is now past and we can look forward to spring. I am having some trouble booking the British Dressage workshop and we are now looking at either June or the back-end of the year, i will keep you all updated. The first event of the year is the Car Boot on the 19th April so start looking out all that stuff you just don't use anymore. If anyone has a suggestion for an event they would like to have at the yard please contact Jen and we will see what we can do.
5th December 2008 - Good fun appeared to be had by all at the Christmas party, it was good to have an excuse to get the glad rags on. I am sure there were a few sore heads the following day, a couple of partiers demonstrated "chair dancing" for when your feet got too sore. Hopefully i will get a few photo's on the gallery soon.
21st September 2008 - The Autumn Fun Jumping Trophy show which was the last event at the yard for the year could not have had better weather. The highlight of he day had to be the Chase Me Charlie where there were eleven horses entered, i personally could barely look as the pole kept going higher, the class was finally won by Ellie when she was the only one to jump 4ft with Jenny Ince and Honey coming a worthy second.
31st August 2008 - There was an excellent turn-out for the Open Showjumping on Sunday and despite a little rain around mid morning the weather held. Notable highlights from the day were Anne Shaw's remarkable stickability when Promise took a dislike to the filler at the last fence and when Iona's dog decided it just had "to go" in the middle of the round in the Horse and Hound!
28th August 2008 - It's that time of year again and a table has been booked at the Northern Hotel for our Christmas Party on Friday 5th December, cost is £35 per person please write your name on the sheet on the notice board at the yard or email Anna Miller if you want to go, £15 non-returnable deposit is required by 7th September.
24th August 2008 - Feedback from everyone overall was that they enjoyed the British Dressage Workshop and felt that they had got something from the day. The trainers were excellent and we are grateful to Jane Rutherford for travelling the distance for us. I know i can say that i have been inspired to compete outside of the yard and possibly one day affiliate. Depending on interest we are hoping to schedule another event for April next year, please let me know if you interested and i will keep you updated [Anna Miller].
19th August 2008 - Despite the awful weather the final of the Dressage League went ahead last night. Heather Duncan with Bain of Denmill won the Intro league and Anne Shaw with Strachbell Irish Promise were runners up, the Prelim league was won by Terri Stewart with Doonbye Royal Blaze and Cecile Audinet with ILPH Sonnet were runners up and finally the Novice League was won by Moira Mann with Ballycastle Rye and Lorraine Bell was runner up with Bilko. The 75cms was won by Eloise Plant and Cassie with runner-up going to Kimberley McCombie and Spirit, and finally the 90cms was won by Rona Gunn and Time Warp with runner-up going to Jenny Ince and Honey.
30th July 2008 - It has been a busy summer with both the dressage and jumping shows being well attended, despite some miserable weather on some days. Many thanks to all those who have been helping out at the events. The jumping was on last night and good night was had in spite of the deteriorating weather. Please see the results page to check how everyone got on. Also congratulations to Adele Middler and Wunder on qualifying for the Scottish National Dressage Championships, it was much deserved and we wish her the best of luck for September.
15th June 2008 - Everyone appeared to enjoy the Summer Solstice Fun Show, the weather was little cold and windy but at least the rain mostly held off. Some pictures from the day have been uploaded to the gallery. Thank you all who helped with setting up it was much appreciated.
4th May 2008 - Ythan Riding Club's first Open Showjumping competition at the yard was an excellent day with several riders from the yard competing. Jenny with her trusty steed Honey was the star for the yard after winning the novice class.
